Petite Miniature Textiles 2020

12th. Fri. June to 16th. Sun. August

Tomoko Yamada has used her talent and experience refining her artistic flair to focus on fibre media. She is constantly adapting her tactile creations and their presentation to allow instinctive interpretations.

circular sequence (a work-in-progress title) originated in 2013 linking repetitive simplicity with purity of expressive representation; progression, often in the manner of a daily reflection will continue.
This adaptation fits onto a purpose-made spool to offer personal connection for viewers. The originated size: 150cm x 150cm x 7cm circle, work is still ongoing process.
She arranged to show petite miniature size 30cm x 30cm 7cm for this exhibition.

Tomoko Yamada Workshop : Respectful Pearl Divers... Fishermans Net Making

The inspiration came from the traditional fisherman’s net making.
Broome has a very strong Japanese influence with the pearling industry dating back to 1880's. To keep this important tradition alive I have made connection to the remaining former pearl divers and their families in Broome.

I would like to share this Broome tradition by having a netting workshop.

Mon. 9th September
